Exercise Grandslam

I have always thought that field camps were tiring and to be honest, this one was no different. In fact, it was the most tiring one of them all thus far. Nonetheless, it was really an memorable moment for me to go through this experience with my section mates, of which I have understood even more in depth over the course of this 4 days and 4 nights summary exercise.

To be given the chance to feel the pressure of being a future commander is definitely an important aspect of a being a senior specialist cadet. It is therefore essential that one is exposed to as much pressure and experience while being in training school so as to gain as much knowledge as one could possibly attain before they graduate.

I believe that I have finally understood what it takes to be a junior commander. But alas, I was not given any appointment during the course of this field camp. Hence the pressure I felt was nothing compared to those of my peers. True enough, there were many times of which I felt like being the appointment holder myself because it felt quite lifeless to be idling around while waiting for instructions to be passed down.

However, I do believe that my time will come in ROC. Till that moment comes, I will just be preparing myself mentally for the great challenge ahead.

10KM CSB Run

Being a runner myself for so many years meant that running is basically part of my life. I had no problem whatsoever with the 10KM run and the build up runs that came before it.

Hence if I were to run, I would definitely push myself to run to the best of my ability.

But today, I decided to do something special. Something I believe reflects my number one core value and that being Care For Soldiers. I decided to run back to the SOC end point and cheer on along the way not only my own platoon mates, but also as much of the whole company as well.

I did it not because I was tasked to, but it was because I want to. I want to make a difference in someone's life, no matter how minute it might seems. At the end of the day, I felt that I have accomplished my main core value in a great way. It is definitely something I believe I must possess as a future commander and the run has certainly provided me the platform to do so.

I am...

Alsyaari aka Ali

I will run the streets
and hostile lands

I will touch the rain
with all I have

I will breathe the air
just scream it loud

My feet will never
touch the ground

Because the days they feel
like ancient clocks

Like when kids grow up
and learn to walk

Because your life is full
of pure desire

A place so gloriously wired
